Yeah, brewing sucks when you are sick.
My brew day went like this:

  • Pushed thigh deep snow off my 30x80 2.5/12 pitched roof
  • snow blowerd (dunno if that is a word) around house and brew stand ~ three hours shot there
  • 1:15 pm - Pre - heated mash cooler and discovered small crack at drain hole ~ leaked all over hell. Hot glue gun sufficed for temporary fix.
  • Ran RV hose from inside house because spigot was frozen.
  • Heated strike water ~ first thing to go right
  • Crushed grain ~ Went well
  • Mounted pump ~ Couldn't find poly quick connect for HLT ~ Scrapped pump and fed Tun with pitcher.
  • Doughed in ~ Went well, hit temps right on the nuts! Yee Haa!
  • Measured out 1 oz. FWH Amarillo ~ Spilled them on floor.
  • Drained and sparged ~ went well
  • Started to boil but propane tank had to be shaken to keep pressure up ~ Sucked
  • Drain clogged in basement ~ Snaked it out while wort boiled
  • Finished and cooled wort.

  • Pitched yeast wheeled fermenter in the house7:15 Cleaned up pushed brew stand to storage position ~ found quick disconnect under brew stand Grrrr.
Outside brewing at -2˚has it's challenges, but at least I didn't have to shoo the flies away. All the mishaps added about an hour to my normal brew day. Of course it is all worth it because I have 10 gallons of Vince's Amarillo APA bubbling away in the basement!

Curious how the brew went, r@fink? Hoping it went well. What kinds of issues did you have?

We, unfortunately, did not get to brew this weekend. We had the yeasts started, but we were so sick on Sunday, we just couldn't get moving enough to be able to do two batches. Even with the ease of the Sabco, it was just too much.

We've got Dr's appointments today. I can take a cough and sniffles for weeks, but when it messes with my brew schedule, that's the last straw.

wow how did the brew work out? How do you keep water from freezing? Or do you have a heated garge?

Brewing a 10 gallon Amarillo APA today. Brewing outside and it's one challenge after another.
