You're doing the right thing by asking others and using forums. There's a lot of good resources out there. Like Jon and Jayme said, always feel free to post questions here.

Adding to what Jayme said about variety packs, I'd have to second that. Though there's nothing wrong with a nice golden American Lager ( I love a good lager), it's always nice to see what else you might like. It's a lot like cooking, if you never tasted the spice, how do you know if your recipe needs it.

When I started with homebrewing, I thought I was a wheat beer fan. After I started tasting different beers, I realized the flavors I was liking and looking for were not in the wheat style.

I don't know if the club in Jamestown still meets, but club events are always a great place to taste different beers. If you happen to find yourself in Bismarck on the first Thursday of the month, you are more than welcome to stop by a Masher meeting.

The more you try, the more you know. Good luck with the first brew! Post back on how it turns out!

I concur with Jayme on the sanitation of equipment. Once you are post-boil sanitation is the key to success. Don't be afraid to ask questions when you need help... that's what we're here for. Cheers! -Jon

Hey! Welcome to the Brewing world. Once you get a taste of true beer you will wonder how you ever touched light beer. The biggest thing to worry about starting out is sanitation. Make sure everything is clean. NEVER use soap to wash fermentors or bottles. Only sanitizer or good dishwasher.

Other than that, I think the best way to start is with kits and work your way up. Just follow the directions and watch out for the hot break (when boil starts). It can be a mess if you don't watch.

Have fun with it, don't be afraid to pruchase mix and match 6 packs at the store to try many other beers out there and enjoy!!! CHEERS!!!

My Name is Shane, I live here in Jamestown. I recently purchased the Brewer's Best Home brew kit. I have not yet started it yet, Im waiting on getting everything I need before I start. Plus Im getting a lot of Help and info from others who are into home brewing. I joined up in another forum a few days ago, Home Brewers Association. I just found this site today. I am excited about brewing my first batch of beer, hopfully I don't mess it up. I like golden beer ( Like Miller Genuine Draft), although on another site Ive been urged to try different ale and lager beers.
All you help and tips are wanted, needed and appreciated.
