The Ginger Ale turned out awesome! I brought it into work and got rave reviews. It's so simple, I'm going to have to keep doing this one. I did let mine sit overnight and then strained it to try to get most of the chunks before adding the champagne yeast. I think that worked really well, though I could probably use a finer strainer next time.

Now I'm thinking I need to try other flavors... Hmm...

I've done the ginger beer either by the 2 liter bottle or by the keg. Seems to me I used a couple of ounces for a 2 liter bottle... I'll have to do some searching to find my recipe as it has been a while since I've made it. I think the HBT link is pretty close to my base recipe without actually looking at my recipe! Very Happy

I think for the other ingredients you could do a little playing and see what you like. That is what is kind of fun about the 2 liter version! I know I've used honey, agave, sugar in the raw, etc. for the sweetness. I don't think I've used orange peel in any but have done combinations of lemon and lime. Do some playing and let us know how it goes!

I tried the extract root beer before I had cornies. Wasn't very good using champagne yeast.

I love a good Ginger Ale, so I'm thinking I'd like to attempt it. Do you know how much ginger you used?

I was looking at the Easy Ginger Ale Thread on HBT. Figured it might be a good starting place for a soda novice like myself.

Not sure on the lemon though... wouldn't orange peel be better? I've seen old fashioned orange-ginger soda's. Not to mention all of the Asian dishes that use orange and ginger together. It's gotta be a good pairing. Or... maybe it sucks.... maybe I should try it.

I make a nice and spicy Ginger beer! The non-alcoholic type which is basically a type of Ginger ale with a nice kick of ginger.

For Root Beer, I take the way easy way and used the extract. Gnome makes about the best that I've tried anyway. It would be fun to try making it the hard way.

I've been looking at soda recipes again. I think I'd like to try one. I found a really neat recipe from 1912 for Root Beer, it uses real sarsaparilla root... but HOLY that's expensive stuff.

I'll probably try some basic recipes first. Anyone here ever made a soda?
